This strategic infrastructure engagement involved the rehabilitation and expansion of the drinking water treatment plant in Kantale, undertaken in collaboration with the French engineering leader Degrémont (SUEZ). The project was a critical step in resolving the long-standing drinking water challenges for the Greater Trincomalee area.
Project Governance Highlights:
- Capacity Enhancement: Increased the treatment plant’s production capacity by over 50%, rising from 36,000 to 55,000 cubic meters per day.
- Technical Mandate: Assisted Degrémont in the construction of new 1,500-cubic-meter raw and treated water storage tanks, as well as the rehabilitation of existing plant structures.
- System Modernization: Involved the complex removal and installation of new pumping stations, electrical systems, and full automation of the treatment process.
- Regional Impact: Provided sustainable and safe drinking water to approximately 300,000 inhabitants in the Trincomalee region.
- Logistics Management: Facilitated the complex logistics and road transport of specialized engineering equipment from the port of Colombo to the project site in the Eastern Province.
